Understanding the Change in Charging Technology
I’ve never done the smartwatch thing of removing it and charging it wirelessly from the back of the phone. It seems I’m in the minority to some extent, as Samsung had to announce the technology needed to do what I’m describing, since its new smartwatches no longer include it.
The Watch Ultra (pre-order) doesn’t support wireless charging. That’s not something the Galaxy Watch 7 doesn’t do. The payment function combines both to add value to your smartwatch. This is a great idea if your smartwatch battery is low and your phone’s battery is, and you’ve maybe not been near a charger in a while.
The sensor design changes the shape of the glass on the back of each watch, allowing the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra to share wireless power. This new design increases the distance between the wireless charging coil in the watch and the wireless charger, so it doesn’t work like it used to.
The watch charger can’t be used. Also, since the shape of the new sensor increases the distance between the coil and the charger, if you try to use the old charger it will charge very slowly and generate a lot of heat. Samsung recommends using the new wireless charger that comes with the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra only.
